For Sale

We offer service kits, spare parts including capacitor sets and power transistor sets, Quad plastic parts, and more.

Do-it-yourself service kits for most of the solid-state Quad units are available at the Dada Electronics Europe Webshop.

We supply do-it-yourself service kits as below. $ASK us about kits for Quad/Leak/Radford valve units and tuners: see Contacts.

A large range of spare parts is available at the Dada Electronics Europe Webshop. The following spare parts are available for purchase here from local stock.

Quad plastic parts

A range of Quad plastic parts is now available for order, 3D-printed on demand, at our Shapeways store.

Due to the limitations of the 3D printing process, these parts are very similar to, but not identical with, the originals, and colour matching is not exact. Redundant numbers have been removed from some knobs. Separation, removal of knockouts, and minor trimming may be required. 6mm M3 hex head grubscrews are required for most shaft-mounting controls. A 1.5mm Allen key is required to fit all parts having grubscrews. A 1/4" 2BA screw is required for the Quad II foot mount, available from us or several suppliers of British fasteners.

Dada Engineering Quad 303 & 405 replacement boards

Replacement PCB boards for Quad 303 and 405 by Dada Engineering are available direct from us or at the Dada Electronics Europe Webshop. These are manufactured to the highest standards and follow the latest issued Quad designs. The 303 boards provide options for sensitivity adjustment and for fully complementary output transistor stages.

We provide a fitting service for Dada Engineering PCBs at $A30 per board including full testing, or a full inspection, test, and alignment service at $A60 after you've fitted your boards but before first power-up.

Service Kits

Title Description AUD
Quad 22 service kit

Kit includes:

  • metal film resistors from the B+ rail to and from the triple PSU capacitor, and for screens.
  • film and electrolytic coupling and decoupling capacitors.
  • polystyrene capacitors for tone controls and filter circuit.
  • gold-plated RCA sockets, yellow/blue/black centres, with washers.
  • 2 x Evox Rifa snubber networks for mains switch.

Please note that installation of the RCA sockets requires drilling out several rivets and stringing a long earth wire between them. It is tedious in the extreme. The washers are installed between the sockets and the outside face of the case, over the removable legend board.

ZD-985 parts

We love the ZD-985 desoldering station, especially its price, but its Achilles heel is the consumable pump diaphragm. We have secured a supply of these from the manufacturer and believe ourselves to be the only retailer of this part in the word.

Mullard 5/20 amplifier chassis

Chassis for the Mullard 5/20 amplifier, with cutouts for valve sockets and IEC mains inlet.

Available in two versions: single stereo chassis, and two mono chassis plus PSU chassis, all  exactly as per the original Mullard publications, to the last 1/8". The stereo chassis is simply the original unitary mono chassis mirror-imaged about the central rectifier socket.

The chassis is made of 2.5mm untreated CNC-routed aluminium, consisting of the top and four sides in a single piece. It ships flat: you will have to arrange folding of the four sides yourself.

These chassis are aimed at home constructors of this classic amplifier. We don't want to supply a complete kit, so you can choose your own transformers, which are available from many suppliers including Partridge, Majestic, and Sowter in the UK, and your own valve sockets. It has been assumed in this day and age that no above-chassis capacitors will be fitted The valve cutouts assume EF86, ECC83 novel sockets, and EL34 and GZ3/34 International Octal sockets. The IEC cutout is for the standard Bulgin snap-in. Placement of transformers and chokes is up to the constructor within the spaces indicated. Drilling holes for fuses, switches, transformer leads, input sockets, and speaker jacks is left as an exercise for the reader.

Quad 'half-moon' AM tuner Quad half-moon AM tuner

Quad 'half-moon' AM tuner. Rare early Quad product. Collector's item.

Bands: MW and LW.

Bandwidth: 7 or 12 KHz.

THD: around 1%.

Output level: up to 500mVRMS.

This unit is electrically A1. Gutted, rebuilt, and aligned on our workbench May 2020. External condition reasonable for age. There is the usual internal chassis rust, and some corrosion on the case which could be sandblasted and powder-coated at not much expense.

This tuner is said to equal or even exceed the later Quad AM2 and AM3 in sound quality. Medium-wave and long-wave bands. Tune (narrow - 7KHz) or wide (12KHz) bandwidth. Up to 500mV output level. Total harmonic distortion around 1%.

Notes:

1. Works with Quad 22 or QCII and one or two Quad Is or IIs. Does not work standalone as it has no power supply.
2. Like all Quad AM tuners, this tuner has no internal ferrite aerial: it requires an external loop aerial of at least two metres, preferably more, correctly oriented with its axis towards the transmitter.

Picture shown is generic.

DM70 tuning indicator valve not working, will be replaced before sale if obtainable.

This item is offered, most unusually for a 65-year-old-item, with a 12 MONTH WARRANTY on all new parts & labour, valves excluded.

Williamson amplifier chassis

Chassis for the Williamson 1947 amplifier, with cutouts for valve sockets and IEC mains inlet.

Available in two versions:

1. Two mono chassis and separate PSU chassis, incorporating side octal sockets for transmission of HT and heater supply.

2. A single stereo chassis.

Both versions are as per the original Wireless World articles. The stereo chassis has simply been mirror-imaged about the central rectifier socket from the original mono block design.

The chassis is made of 2.5mm untreated CNC-routed aluminium, consisting of the top and four sides in a single piece. It ships flat: you will have to arrange folding of the four sides yourself.

These chassis are aimed at home constructors of this classic amplifier.
